Top Three Progress in Style but Next in Line Experience Problems

Slovakia’s Barbora Balazova, Ecuador’s Tania Almendariz and the host nation’s Mabelyn Enriquez, the respective top three seeds in the Junior Girls’ Singles event at the Guatemala Junior and Cadet Open, duly completed their group stages matches in style.

Barbora Balazova recorded a straight games wins over Guatemala’s Diana Meda and El Salvador’s Mariela Monge, whilst Tania Almendariz emulated the efforts of the European star.

Without the loss of a single game, she accounted for Guatemala’s Andrea Montufar and El Salvador’s Yancy Urias.

Mabelyn Enriquez
Similarly, Mabelyn Enriquez was in form.

She recorded a four games win (matches in the qualification stage being best of five games) over compatriot, Michelle Lee before accounting for Trinidad and Tobago’s Catherine Spicer in three straight games.

Defeats
Success for the top three seeds but for the fourth and fifth seeds there were problems.

Guatemala’s fourth seeded Eva Godoy was beaten by colleague, Hellen Salazar whilst likewise fifth seed, Nury Vasquez suffered at the hands of a Guatemalan team mate.

She was beaten by Analdy Lopez.

Through to Main Draw
Both Analdy Lopez and Hellen Salazar completed the first phase matches unbeaten with Eva Godoy and Nury Vasquez securing second place and thus progressed to the main draw.
